Celebrating Independence Day -15th Aug at 4500Mts at the shores of Pangong Tso. This pic was taken when we started back to Leh on 15th morning after spending the nite in camps at Pangong Tso. A group of Bikers, who must touring Leh were at the shores of Lake and trying to hoist the flag. Let the spirit be there, let us hope for better India. Cheers :)

I Want To Break Free

I want to break free......................break free from standard templates of Blogger. So i am in the process of designing a new template for my Photoblog with some help from templates availaible on net and a design expert :)

But, i am in a fix.........I have two options........
1) I apply the new template on this blog and continue posting here

2) I start a new blog, post some of the best pics of existing one and let that carry on.

In case, i select 2 option, i would continue running this blog but it would be more aligned to its title going forward ( Portrait of life and not experiments with camera as it is now). so a lot of pictures from our daily life would be here. Where as the new blog will have experiments with my camera and artistic type photos.

Lets see, i am still thinking.

Lansdowne Panorama

My first Panorama shot after a long time. The last one i took was of Matteputty Dam in Munnar. (Click here to see that)

On the last weekend trip to Lansdowne, I took this Panorama photo from Tip-N-Top point. You can see the Western Himalayas in the pic in the background. I took this photo without using tripod. The earlier one (Munnar) was taken using a tripod. The key to any panorama pic is to take shots with 30% of common area between two consecutive shots. You should not move the camera up and down for hoz. panorama, only sideways. Thats why a tripod is necessary. On this trip I totally forgot to bring the tripod:(

I placed the camera on the railing and moved the digicam sideways to capture 5 pics and joined them to create this photograph. Fortunately, the pics came out good enough to create a panorama. To see a bigger version click here.

Sometimes I really wonder, how we are able to capture something really beautiful out of nowhere. While travelling back from Lansdowne this weekend, it started raining heavily. I took this shot as macro of rain drops falling on the front windscreen of the car travelling at 30-40 Kms per hr. No filter, no post processing on it. Sometimes you dont have to make the picture, it just happens :)

Selective Coloring

Long time, no new post.........sorry people but the work at office was quite hectic for past two weeks. Anyways, i am back :)

Two pics, i applied selective coloring on them. I have already posted second pic few months back on my blog as colored one. Here is the link.

But Palak suggested that i should color the orange one in front and leave the rest Black and white. Well i colored two of them and here is the result. Hope you all will like it..........

One of the Adminstrative building of Tamil Nadu Govt near Fort St. George in Chennai. I liked the way it has been designed. Capturing it in normal angle would have not given a good pic. So took this pic at a acute angle from side by sitting down. Applied Sepia filter and toned down the color a little. Hope you people will like it.

There are reminders in the Church of Clive, who was married here in 1753, and of Elihu Yale, the early Governor of Chennai who later founded the famous American University bearing his name. Pic taken at Fort St George in Chennai. Fort St. George, a creation of the British in the year 1640 marks the beginning of developing Madras (Chennai) as a modern city. I had to take this pic in quite a hurry because of the guards. Hence, i was not able to change the settings, thats why you can see that picture is little overexposed. Though i liked the composition, thats why posting it out here.

I will be in the process of shifting back to New Delhi by this weekend. So, I am not sure whether I would be able to post next pic on coming Monday or not. More pics to follow soon from the fort.

Construction

Chennai these days is full of construction work. A lot of IT Parks, residential apartments are coming up in the city, specially in the southern part. The IT industry is more or less centred on the southern part of metro and thats where I too stay. This is a picture of a new apartments that are coming up in front of my balcony (next to my apartments). Both the pics taken from my balcony at 7th floor, grey sky and morning time. This building gonna block almost 50% of sea view from my balcony :(

Btw thinking about development in southern part of chennai, has anyone noticed, why the southern areas of most of the cities are the most posh ones. Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and now Chennai also.

Pic taken on 31st Dec, last day of the last year on my Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry Trip. Prashant was with me on this trip and after reaching at the top of a small hillock, we noticed a wall made of rocks and a small opening between it. The pic is taken through that opening, which came out as natural frame for the pic.

The Charm of Connaught Place

The heart of City (New Delhi) - Connaught Place, the most prominent location in Delhi. So much so, distances to Delhi are still measured with CP as the starting point. Also, the location of Orkut Delhi Meet for last two time, simply because of the fact that its the central location and easily accessible (more so with Delhi Metro). Named after the visit of Duke of Connaught to India, it is the focus of entertainment, shopping, and business activities. Designed by Robert Tor Russell in collaboration with WH Nicholls, it comprises two huge concentric circles of colonnaded verandahs in plastered brick design painted an eye-pleasing white.

First three pics are taken by Bhaskar, who was experimenting a lot with my camera at orkut meet. I have just added Sand Stone Texture in third pic to give it a different look.

Diwali : The biggest festival in most of the Indian States is celebrated around the month of Oct- Nov by lighting up the lamps (diya/deepak), candles and bursting the crackers. All pics here are taken in burst mode but at low shutter speed and high zoom (around 4-6x). All crackers here are the one which burst in sky, hence u can see a little shake in the pics also.

Clouds at Munnar

One of the luxaries of having so many digital camera at your disposal is that you cant miss any opportuntiy to take a good photograph. We were ready to come down from the Cliff Hut (at border of Kerala-TN), where we stayed for a night on our trek in Munnar. I was awake, right from 6 that morning to click some good pics and indeed it was worth getting up at that time cuz i got some fantastic shots. I will post them surely later. I just saw the sky for a moment and took this picture using my friend's Canon Powershot A-85 Digital Camera. That was the only camera which was out at that moment. I have packed mine in the bag and didnt want to miss movement of clouds. Even after having high shutter speed of 1/1000 sec you can imagine the speed at which clouds were floating by just looking at the picture. Also, I loved the contrast in the pic.

Matteputty Dam Lake

My first serious landscape Photograph with tripod.

Location: Matteputy Dam Lake, Munnar

I took 6 pics adjacent to each other and joined them using my camera software. The key is to overlap 30% area minimum in two adjacent pic and use a tripod and just move it along. Dont disturb any of the settings of the camera and shoot with minimum time lag possible ( helps a lot if weather is changing like here). A tripod is must for this kind of photograph and the clarity of pic taken with tripod is miles ahead with the one taken without tripod.

Read this quote somewhere and it gave me inspiration to start a Photo Blog....." A Portrait of Life"

I have developed an interest in Photography in last 7-8 months…..precisely around Diwali – 2004 (Festival of Lights in India). So, as always I have started putting in effort to learn it in the right way. Since, I don’t have time to actively pursue any Classes ( though I wish I can), I am learning gradually with the help of online tutorials and lots of PDF books (Thanx Santosh !!)

One of the most important decisions was “Which Camera???” Film or Digital, SLR or Non SLR…….With the world moving toward digital, I opted for it but I was again stuck on the decision of whether to buy a DSLR or not. In the end the financial constraints took over and I finally opted for Panasonic FZ-20. Generally people opt for Canon or Nikon cameras and don’t take Panasonic Brand serious but Panasonic has always been a good maker of cameras and it was the only brand with camera models in each list of best cameras in 2004. Its FZ list is amazing and FZ -20 is the best of list and the best you can opt for if you are not going for DSLR.
